Talus and the Tombstones was inspired by a remarkable one-day helicopter expedition into the heart of the Tombstone Mountains in Yukon, Canada. Flying above this dramatic wilderness offered a perspective few people ever experience—towering peaks, ancient talus slopes, winding glacial rivers, and the incredible autumn colours that make this landscape unforgettable.
I wanted this painting to capture both the immense scale of the mountains and the quiet feeling of standing in a place that has remained wild for thousands of years. Rather than painting every detail, I focused on simplifying the landscape into bold shapes and flowing colour while preserving the powerful spirit of the Tombstones.
This image has become one of my most collected works. It continues to be one of my bestselling pieces, especially as large-format canvas prints, where the sweeping river and vibrant mountain forms create a striking focal point in a home or office.
Created from firsthand experience in Yukon, Talus and the Tombstones celebrates one of Canada's most extraordinary northern landscapes and reflects my ongoing passion for sharing the beauty of the North through contemporary landscape painting.
